The Task
Create a title sequence for a real or fictional TV show, movie, or book.
The Solution
A title sequence for award-winning Broadway musical Hamilton that layers handwritten lyrics from the first two songs of the musical and a wash of gold-tone watercolor in the background. In the foreground, silhouettes of characters or objects associated with characters float upwards, giving the sense that one is "falling" through history. The actors' names are set in Trajan, the font used on the poster and album cover for Hamilton, while the names of the character(s) they play are written over them in a script font. Writing, history, and storytelling are strong themes throughout the musical, so I kept the focus on words in the title sequence as well.
